I was curious if there was any specific reason why some the names used in your fansubs of StrikerS do not match the ones given on the official japanese-language Nanoha website. Some of the discrepancies I've noticed are below:
Tiana Lanstar -> TEANA-LANSTER
Kyaro Ru Rushie -> CARO-Ru-LUSHE
Elio Mondial -> ERIO-MONDIAL
I wouldn't expect them to be in all caps like that, but I was just giving straight information off the official site. These names also make more sense considering the cars the names are based off of, being the Nissan Teana, the Mazda Carol, and the Suzuki Aerio/Ferrari Mondial.
And although device names are not in roman characters on the official website, they can be found on the japanese-language NanohaWiki, at http://nanoha.julynet.jp/. I know it cannot be certain on wikis if the information is accurate or not, but I've found this to be reliable, and they say that the names are all taken from official sources. As such, these are discrepancies I've noticed for the device names:
Mach Calibre -> Mach Calibur
There may be more discrepancies I haven't noticed, but I thought I'd point out the most obvious ones.
Wow, I hadn't seen that Zafira was Zafila on the official site. I can certainly accept using Zafira, since it is indeed the spelling used for the car. I can also certainly see how it would be silly to use "Lost Property Riot Force 6". And I see how Teana -> Tea would not work, although at the same time you could have done Teana -> Tia, since there are plenty of nicknames people have that don't follow the spelling of their names. Though I do see possible confusion from that too. Although as for why it's Lanstar instead of Lanster, I still have no idea.
I am also somewhat curious about what the arguments were for not using Caro, although I suppose the translator being vehemently against it would be good enough reason not to. I'd still like to see the reasoning behind it however. As for Elio, I mean really, the difference is that one is a bit more true to the car name, while the other one isn't, but I guess if we really wanted to be true to the name, he'd be Aerio, which really just doesn't work at all.
I'm not really asking for changes or anything, as I respect the naming decisions, especially knowing now that they were decisions to purposefully deviate from the official names. I'd just like to know more about why. And though there was somewhat of an explanation, I'm obviously still unclear on a few things.
If you think about it, the Japanese pronunciation is not very accurate, such as "tsu" can be just as well pronunciated as "su" with just a bit more accent.
Case closed now?
I don't want to look at a thread which debates on which spelling is correct - we already had enough of that with the Singapore anime debate.
What can I help with?? Can you please be more specific?

Wow - I didn't realize you'd come so quick!
Since you did that restyling for MSLN/A's, maybe you can help him out by creating a subtitle file...
I'm not forcing you to do it, though.
It's your choice, and I thought that idea might help him ask you.
ChanLokHang, you sure are fast =+=
Tsk, tsk, tsk... hahaha do not underestimate me. I check this site about 10 times a day, perhaps more.
Something about the names for the characters in StrikerS. I'd rather stick with Nanoha-DGz's official released names. You can just download the subs I restyled from here and edit them. Ah do besure to give credit... the folks at Nanoha-DGz did like 99.9% of the work on these subs... I only restyled them. So editing them and releasing them without giving credit for those who did most of the work is a big no no.

We're using the official Japanese names from Nanoha.com unless otherwise stated by me on the release or unless common sense tells us otherwise. For Kyaro, the official Japanese name is キャロ・ル・ルシエ which translates to Kyaro Ru Rushie. Also, her name is pronounced Kyaro too, not Caro. It's not that noticeable but you can hear it if you pay attention or have uber awsome speakers/sound card (like me XP). Also, Kyaro is infinatly more cuter than Caro, and Kiety said he'd quit if we don't use Kyaro too.

My god, Yuuno's turned into a plushie!
Maybe it's the true Yuuno, and he wants to be Hug by a loli, so he hine in the plushie !
Delicious Yuuno plushie, must have it
lol hahaha oh wow.. I totally missed that.
I like Yuuno, always the thinking man. XD
> I totally missed that.
I only noticed that after roughly five times myself.
> I like Yuuno, always the thinking man. XD
The thinking rodent, you mean?
I really like his role in "Onyx Days"

Yay! I was wondering what they were talking about in the preview for Sound Stage 2 (the last track on MSLN StrikerS SS1)
There's probably going to be about 3 sound stages. There were 3 for the last two seasons anyway.
Since we seem to be taking a glacially long time to release anything, I thought I'd share this tidbit with you all. I started putting together the encode for ep8 and noticed some of my signs and afx stuff didn't line up anymore. Digging further, it appears they've very slightly tweaked the OP and redrew some bits.
The image on the left is from ep7 (and I'm assuming all prior to it as well) while the right side is from ep8.
HOW MANY LEGS DOES REINFORCE HAVE?
This was the most lulz worthy, but other than that a few other scenes have people positioned a few inches from where they stood previously. The first title screen seems to have been redone to be more fancy and the robots that Nanoha and Fate take on after their gundam takeoff are now CG and float independently toward the camera rather than being a static part of the background.
Is this a sign of things to come? Maybe less QUALITY? Well, not for the rest of this episode anyway. There's a hilarious shot of Vita in it somewhere. I'm probably one of three people on the interwebs who hasn't even seen ep8 yet so I probably shouldn't even speculate on future events.
For those wanting a status report, ep8 is in editing now and I'm hoping it gets released before the weekend because as of Monday I'll be in Switzerland on company business until July 4th. This thread is officially closed for talk about the release and how damn slow we are but is WIDE open for lulz and QUALITY images.

And, umm... how do we fix that problem?
And anyways, I doubt that most people would look at each frame to just get a shot of something cough inappropriate cough, such as a pantyshot or some sort... unless you're a real hard-core fan of it, that is.
stands up and apologizes to every single soft/hard-core fans of anime everywhere
Thinking about it, I actually do freeze each frame. nihaha
And, how long would the DVD release take?
Hopefully everything would be settled by the year 2012, when invisible/camouflaging cloths should be mass-produced in Japan, including micro-computers embedded.
drools at a thought of watching anime everywhere

Have a look at the thread "Nanoha StrikerS DVD Release Schedule" on this board.
>>12
Good lord, I had to use to Search to find that thread out ;;
But seriously, I'm hoping that it's not gonna get licensed by American companies. I'm gonna cry if they do *_*;;

I'd be disappointed if all groups stopped subbing StrikerS, by OTOH, I'm already getting used to watch episodes raw...
Oh yea, wasn't there an official artwork of Hayate touching Signum and Shamal's boobs?
It seems that I've lost the image...
Someone mind sharing it?
Oh btw, i don't think its official. Someone made another version of this but I forgot where. -_-
is it ok if i post more?
I hope this fits the category
I've just finished with the StrikerS manga and I must say it's very satisfying in all aspects. It also drew my attention to the A's manga. It does seem to exist but I can't find any version of it anywhere, not even the raws. Any kind souls here willing to provide a pointer on where I can download the A's manga, hopefully translated versions?

[I-Jin]_Mahou_Shoujo_Lyrical_Nanoha_As_The_Comics.zip
one more question? are the As comics compromised of all these reports or is there the comic version of the events in the anime?
AFAIK, the mangas and the animes are complementary -- no events are present in both a manga and an anime.
Lyrical Nanoha is definitely an exception to the usual anime/manga relation.
Ugh... Sorry for all the duplicates above, I messed up bad (and even forgot to type my name) :-(
sup,
I got hooked on Nanoha recently (watched both seasons within a few days, shed girly tears here and there, even watched Chinese subs for StrikerS because English subs were taking forever), and I'm now on a hunt to grab all the parody 4koma/manga that I could find, since they're all kinds of awesome.
I know about entropymax, and that nano A's site, were there any other sites that has those parody mangas?
Also, anyone could identify what were these two's souce?

A lot of people don't realize that translating something from one language to another isn't a job that can be done in one day; granted if you go full on and not rest then yea, but if you do that you'll make yourself very sick.
I had a crash course in reality back in high school when I was apart of a french fansub group; translating anime into french.. we were backlogged due to our group leader being very ill so myself and one other worked two days straight... in the end the episode for that anime wasn't released until four weeks later because the two of us (the only TWO translators) became very ill.
So please people; you need to have patiance. Real Life does take priority over whatever your hobby might be, while I do wish I could ask JJS if he needs another, my current job prevents me from doing what I love to do - translating anime, whether it be animated, manga, what have you.
We all need to realize that DGz are only human; they are not robots, they are flesh and blood like everyone else. They need to eat, they need to sleep, we can't expect them to slave at that computer for 168 hours a week.
So have patience folks; I know it's tough and that some of you don't have that, but perhaps it's about high time you learned some, because real life is a waiting game, you thought school was a bore? Sheesh.. wait until you graduate and get out into the real world, you'll be WISHING you were back in high school..
Anyway, carry on ;)

High school fansub groups?
Man, I'd love to join some groups when I get into high school -_-
And adding onto what Kalitan said, translation is hard work.
Just one wrong mistake can ruin an entire episode (for me right now, it's just Korean doujins).
Oh yea, and don't be a leecher and just use [Nanoha-DGz] as your personal (and technically) a toy box. By seeding the torrents, you are contributing to [Nanoha-DGz].
>A lot of people don't realize that translating something from one language to another isn't a job that can be done in one day;
Please, you're making me lol too much, it's not as if silly animu uses alot of complex expressions or grammar in their conversation. If you're proficient enough (and good lord you MUST be, before even thinking of trying to translate shit up), it's not that hard to make a dialogue script in a jiffy.
This anon is the anon in /a/ who provided the Manabi ep.11 scripts sometime back then, when a.f.k stalled their subs forever. It took me like whut, 1 hour to make the script?
yah yah as if anyone will believe the shit your talkin without proof. Go and die already jerk.

Go die already.

Think encoding takes time in a jiffy?
Ever thought of something called 'edits' and 'karaoke' before, too?
Oh yea, and don't forget quality. We don't want /shit/ translations that has half the parts *moonspeak.
>This anon is the anon in /a/ who provided the Manabi ep.11 scripts sometime back then, when a.f.k stalled their subs forever. It took me like whut, 1 hour to make the script?
It takes me 30 minutes to just understand anime. Unlike you, though, we work on quality and good translation.
Hopefully the *troll will behave and download [Nanoha-DGz] file by waiting patiently or either GTFO.
K let's try and keep the shit-flinging to a minimum.
My point is that even though it only takes an hour or so to translate an episode, it still comes down to finding that hour of complete free time to do something you might enjoy, but is still tedious work. See also: timing.
Can I volunteer to do something? I like the series so much and I know some bits in Japanese, but...
Ah well, maybe I'll just be a bother, sorry. I withdraw that request.
>>19
Heck, I wish I could help this group but since Nanoha's been licensed already by the Korean anime channel Qwiny, I can't do much here ;(
But heck, we all contribute by helping out in the boards, right?
... eh, why's this dead thread up again, anyways?
Still in my comparison between Slayers and Lyrical Nanoha, I just noticed that Lina and Nanoha-chan are pretty much alike:
Nanoha and Lina are two intelligent, talented and ridiculously powerful girls. They're both the main character of their respective animes, and they're both there to save the world.
They're both good at handling/managing people. Hey, Lina travels with Naga, Amelia, Xellos, etc., without becoming crazy or killing them. That's impressive.
They're both good at transforming foes into allies (Fate, Vita, Xellos, Zelgadis) or acquiring friends through battle.
Lina is a bit dangerous to live/travel with, since she's kinda short-tempered. But then again, Nanoha is also really scary when angry.
None of them is scared of fighting and lauching powerful spells.
And basically, I wouldn't want any of them as an enemy.
lol. very good stuff Fabien.
I like both, but for different reasons. As for similarities, I agree with all of the above, but I still think they are more different than similar. With Nanoha, I always get the purified, innocent, and reserved feelings. Sure she can go all out at times but that's not her nature. It's an exception rather than the norm. For Lina, it's always time and time again an expressive and explosive personality. She's like the character that you either really really hate or really really love. She either enthralls you with her b*tchiness (:P) or she turns you a mile away.
Basically, I think they have different endearing qualities. I just don't see another Lina Inverse character anywhere else though. :)
I can't let you use the word "b*tchiness" about Lina.
She's sociable (like I said, she did befriend Naga, which is no small feat), she truly cares for her friends, she's resolute (she can work very hard to attain her objectives). Just like Nanoha.
Slayers is a humoristic show. You can get caught in a huge explosion (like the village elder at the end of episode 1) and just get your face and clothes a bit dirty. So, Lina's explosive (litterally) temperament is mainly due to the genre. You can compare it to how Kaname hits Sousuke with her fan all the time in "Fumoffu".
Also, Lina is an adventurer, she has to find a way to eat every day. Nanoha doesn't have that kind of problem to consider, since she has a stable situation (first a girl living with her parents, and then a TSAB employee). So, lots of their differences in life are due to circumstances, not to what they are deep down.
Lina and Nanoha are two sensitive, caring, strong-willed, smart young girls. The "sweet" side of Nanoha tends to let the viewer forget how mentally strong she is, while Lina hides her sensibility with either laughs or anger. But IMHO it's mainly due to their respective environments.
Well, in conclusion, I like them both, for the same reasons.
Two screen caps to illustrate my post...
I'm re-watching Slayers this week.
And I just had the revelation: Subaru is a female Gourry. Powerful and efficient when it counts, and a complete airhead the rest of the time.
I can see how that can get confusing. ^_^;;
I really liked Slayers because Lina isn't your typical I-am-a-saint-and-can-do-no-wrong protagonist. She can be a real b*tch when she wants/needs to and I think that's admirable. haha. ;)
YURI..
StrikerS episode 11: Dragon Slave!
Except when her sister is involved :p
Then she turns into a ten year old trying to find a place to hide, like a certain episode where she makes a paramid to hide in when her sisters ORDERS her to under-take a mission in a letter ;)
lol. I remember that one clearly. Too bad Luna never really appeared except that one vague time. She would've been awesome. Maybe too awesome. :O
Sigh. I wish there was another anime with the same in-your-face type female protagonist.
>> 20
Maybe if you mix Rubette and Goduko (from Gokudo-kun Manyuki)?
I would settle for that. XD
But really, I wouldn't mind watching a similar character. If only... :?
Now I remembered something similar in Magical Project S (with previous Nanoha seasons):
Nanoha = Sasami
Yuuno = Ryo-Okhi
Fate = Misao
At first enemies later friends, and also some "technology" in magical wand...
Except that this is a complete parody to magical girls. Indeed.
When I first watched the first few episodes of season 1, I couldn't help thinking about Card Captor Sakura. Even now I'm sure Nanoha's creators had watched CCS:
http://20gp.ovh.net/~example/CardCaptorNanoha.zip
To quote the most awesome Sega game known to man (Altered Beast, duh), "Rise from your grave"
This brings us all the way to... still 3 episodes behind. Rumor has it that ep8's script is actually partially written already so maybe we'll see that one in less than 3 weeks :D
Anyway enjoy your attention whoring Tiana and, as usual, XviD will be out whenever I finish encoding it.
Meh, I seriously wanna help you guys out... but all I can read is Korean and a few kanjis...
But I won't be downloading and archiving them since I'm pretty sure you guys'll put up a DVD version of it, which is must-be-archived the ones ;)
And here we have a fine specimen of XviD encoded ep7 for those waiting. Less than 6 hours after the h264 edition too, WTF is going on around here?
This one time at band camp... JJS made another shitty release comment on tosho
::insert fleeing here::
(USER WAS SHOT OUT OF A CANNON FOR THIS POST)
Thanks guys. has neither the patience or disk space to download raws and decipher moonspeak.
"has neither the patience or disk space to download raws and decipher moonspeak."
Awww.. but moonspeak is better than asking Raising Heart to translate for you.
lol. good stuff. thanks everyone! :)
Yeah, planning to fix the disk space problem with a new 250GB external hard drive.
>>19
Buy 1TB. I heard it's on sale for about $300-$400 ;)
just buy 2 500gig hard drives same 1TB for like a fourth of the price as a single TB drive
Yeah, once I get a job. ^^;;
