Well, you're more or less right about everything expect the 'canon' part. That interview has a lot of points that are clearly in jest, so it proves nothing. The only canon relationships are friendships and that's about it (except for Chrono).

The way I see it, Nanoha was originally supposed to be straight. She certainly was in Triangle Hearts. The fact that they made Yuuno a human boy rather than just a magical mascot shows the creators' intent for him. However, when the fanbase turned out to be vastly in support of yuri, they decided to go with the current ambiguous approach to it, so as to keep a larger following.

I'm going to be very dissapointed if they ever make NanoFate explicitly canon. They're going to lose a lot of respect if they abandon their original intent solely for the purpose of fan pandering. Look where that got Gundam SEED Destiny.

Anyways, supporting yuri is fine, but don't bitch at us here. Make your own thread.

See, it's all about maintaining the status quo. The official material is about all you can really trust. Interviews and what not make it hard to keep stories straight, and the situation also plays a factor. There's no way the staff would say "No, Nanoha and Fate are not lovers" in front of a huge crowd. There'd be a huge riot and they'd probably get linched.

What were you listening to? Fate is still Vivio's Fate-mama according to canon, she is keeping distance of Nanoha and Vivio since she's working away, but they still keep in contact as a family.

There's no longing gazes, no embarrassed looks. Nothing like that, not even when Fate is changing right in front of her. There's no real sexual tention between them.

Fate may have been bashful like that in the first two seasons, but that's because she was socially awkward and not used to such things. Come StrikerS, she's an adult and things like that are natural now.

That is the first time I'm hearing this. I've heard many times that Hayate was the one who arranged for them to sleep together and they agreed, much to their embarrassment. And I'd like to reiterate what someone else said previously. Lovers or not, They're close enough to share a bed platonically. You can hardly compare the two. Sure, there are similarities, such as parting with some one special to you, but Kannazuki no Miko had flat out love confessions and all sorts of mushy stuff that I could barely sit through (I did eventually finish it). That scene was a mistake, the massive negative reaction at 2chan when that episode aired didn't go unnoticed by Seven Arcs, marking then the official end of the character we knew. i'm a long vet of the Ranma fan community so i'm no stranger to pairing arguments.

I honestly feel fine with Nanoha+Yuuno or Nanoha+Fate, since the only people to get married in the show at all are Chrono and Amy. So to me i think we're well within reason to have a thread for Het pairings, since so many of the other threads will support Yuri pairings.

From what I've been told, it's because yuri fans have so few series they can claim as their own. So they're very defensive about anything they feel falls into their 'territory.' When 'non-believers' enter this territory, they act hostile and try to drive them out, lest the shows they claim be 'tainted.'

It's especially delicate in the case of Nanoha, a series that is not officially a shoujo-ai show (just look at ANN and even Wiki: none of them list yuri under the genre). So when some one brings up the possibility of straight pairings, the yuri fans act even more violently. For if those possibilities are considered, there's a chance they won't be able to like the series anymore.

"Shoujo-ai" isn't an anime genre, the correct word is yuri.

For example, a lot of fans think My HiME has a love story between Mai and Mikoto. Yet she clearly hooks up with Yuuichi at the end of the show.

And just because a certain audience latches onto a show, doesn't change the show's genre. GaoGaiGar is a kids show, but was popular with young adults. Doesn't change the fact that it's still a kid's show. Naturally, it did prompt Sunrise to make FINAL pretty dark and serious.

I use shoujo-ai and yuri interchangably, but generally I use yuri to describe the intercourse. Kannazuki no Miko is undeniably a shoujo-ai show. The main girls are in love, and their love is a major focus of the series, and the final ep has them declaring their feelings and what not.

Nanoha and Fate's bond was prominent in the first season, not so much in A's, and merely background in StrikerS. Yes, they have a very strong bond, but if that bond is romantic in nature is purely speculation.

Who's denying this? I'm not. I know full well that they are very important to each other, and are a loving family along with Vivio. But does that automatically make them lesbian lovers? For starters the speculation of any actual realtionship of been romantic with Nanoha has been blown out of the water in most cases.

For example my try at saying there was possible romance between Yunno and Nanoha was shot/burned/stomped/chewed then flush out of the window (then again the mere mentioning of Yunno do that)

the thing is Seven Arcs likes to play by what the fans SEE, by goading the fans bit by bit but not giving any out right prove e.g. romantic scenes between Fate and Nanoha for instance. but breaking some of the laws to inject some kind of basis of what could be a possible relationship, e.g. the sharing bed between Nano and Fate has been discussed and I have to agree it do lend to the Yuri very well.

But Seven Arcs (the voice actors has no say what so ever in this matter be it joke or rumour) wants to tease their audience, which is a good way of making them coming back for more.

I started out in strikers so I didn't pick up on the NanoFate romance but did pick up on how very close friends they are before Vivio turns up and cause a bit of a confusion as to their relationship to be speculated by the fans.

The best way to keep the people watching is to teas them little by little, I shoudl know I read some books that do that did a few Fanfics on occasions too which works out better than I anticipated.

Anyway bottom line is no one TRULY knows what is Seven Arcs true aim would be for the relationship between Nanoha and any of the characters.

So please can we skip this entire mess and carry on with the usual posting talk and stuff.

It's quite clear to anyone that Nanoha and Fate's friendship is very strong. I definitely think that if either got a boyfriend, that boyfriend would inherently be second fiddle to the respective best friend. Most guys would be put off by this. I doubt they'd take kindly to wanting to do something with his girlfriend, only to be told "Sorry, but I have plans with Nanoha/Fate-chan!"

I often read about this in online/magazine articles. People complaining that "They spend more time with their friends than me!"

However, this is why I believe Yuuno to be such a good choice as a boyfriend. He would understand the strength of Nanoha and Fate's relationship, and be cool with it. Heck, since he's friends with both of them, he could probably tag along.

Nobody has said anything about official pairings. This thread is for dumping images/comments involving couples of the male/female nature. How probable or impossible a pairing is within the canon is a moot point.

People have forgotten the meaning of shipping. If I think that the dog monster from ep 2 and that tree monster from ep whatever would make a good couple, I'm allowed to ship them. The fact that they never meet and are returned to normal at the end of the episode is hardly an obstacle.

Most of us are just fine with the idea of yuri pairings but honestly there is nothing that make's nanoha a yuri only show, and since the show is 'clean' we'll never know for sure. Otoboku is yuri (with a twist), Kashimashi is yuri, strawberry panic is yuri, nanoha isn't it is a middle of the road show which could go either way. (note these are all animes of which i looked at my shelf and saw the dvds.)

I see nanoha much in the same realms at Rayearth or CC Sakura, which we should all note nanoha draws alot from both of said shows. (again two more shows on my shelves)

I'm a long time reader of Ranma fanfics, if you want pairings and insane gender confusion try reading a few of thous.

Nanoha fans wouldn't be angry only because you paired Nanoha and Fate with someone else, but because you did it with a male, with Yuuno (AKA the most hated character), and instead of the sacrifice of only one of the two most popular characters of the show, you're doing it with the both of them.

In Magic Knights Rayearth, there are serious hints of shounen-ai. I don't remember having seen shoujo-ai, but then again, I watched this a long time ago.

In CCS, one girl (Tomoyo) loves another (Sakura), but it's one-sided. Tomoyo's mother's feelings to Sakura's mother might have been close to that, too.
OTOH, there is one completely official shounen-ai couple. And by "official", I mean "stated in the show" (episode 66).

At the beginning, I also felt MGLN was quite close to CCS, but CCS was made for girls by four women, while MGLN has been made for males.

Say if, as a child, Vivio would go around saying "When I grow up, I'm going to become Yuuno-(insert suffix here)'s bride!" (as young children often do in animes). And if, when she turns 16 (legal marrying age in Japan), she decides to seriously persue that idea, how would her mama's react?

Personally I think they'd be cool with it. If that's what their daughter decided on, they'd respect it. They've known Yuuno for years, so they'd know he'd take good care of her.

13 years isn't an impossible age gap. Age gaps of 10-15 years actually aren't that unusual in anime. Look at all the shows with an older guy followed around by a young girl, it almost always eventually becomes romantic attraction.
