A translator at MangaFox very kindly decided to pick up translating Vivid. Remind me to service him as well. At the moment he's working on 16.

Vivid 16 out here: http://www.payapaya-scans.com/

So apparently there were some really cool battles and matchups.....but we don't get to see them!

Instead: Tournament arc, Tsundere Nove, devices, and Hayate!

Another yuri group? I'm glad but I'll keep MangaFox in my bookmarks.

Now if only ZSS could find raws and translate a little bit faster... Oh well I'm grateful that we have translators at all.

I remember a time when people thought Vivid would suck and Force would rock. Wait. That was only two years ago. How time flips things around.

^ Who thinks Vivid rocks? I mean, other than people who just can't get enough of girls taking baths with other girls.

>>8 Compare the commentary on this board alone from two years ago (it's still in the archives - look at the image threads) and now. /Force/ has plummetted, while Vivid stays consistent.

And this board has almost zero activity. The latest updates for the PSP game came out with two new characters days ago - did anyone even care enough to post them on this board?

Where's the wide spread enthusiasm for ViViD? It sure isn't here, just being more popular than Force isn't saying much.

Just admit it. The franchise is dying.

Force and Vivid suck, and the game is hard to obtain. I doubt the franchise is dieing in Japan...but over here, there isn't much to discuss when that's all they have to offer.

13 Name: Anonymous : 2011-09-27 11:00 ID:iis3cT2w [Del] [Report]

To be fair, there hasn't been anything new to talk about. I'm sure there will be more activity when we get more info on Gears of Destiny and the A's movie.

PjJkJ2WQ: And how sad is it that both mangas have been running for two years and we still don't know where the hell they're going with them? Vivid might as well be called "Nothing Fucking Happens: The Manga," because it's been running for two years and... nothing fucking happened. It's the creators' sad admission that they're fully aware they can get by on nothing other than exploiting moe fanboys with fanservice. The only reason you can say Vivid is "staying consistent" is because everybody here still flips a shit when they see Nanoha and Fate holding hands again.

Worst part is, they'll show us all the minor characters' tits but not Nanoha's or Fate's. Probably something in the contract.

Force on the other hand, there might be something happening but it's impossible to tell because it's so glacially slow paced. They had to hax the new villains to make them dangerous, made Hayate a buttmonkey in the process, and then tried to lampshade it by bringing the villain in to literally tell the audience that they know it's cliche but they don't care. And this took them TWO YEARS? They should have just made a movie out of it, because there's way too little going on to justify dragging it out like this.

Also they totally should have used the Muvluv pilot suit designs.

Ugh. I'm gonna go put some more doujinshi together and upload them. At least Kamogawa Tanuki's coming up with some new--wait, I'm sure this is the exact same plot he's done before, just with different guys raping her. At least it's in full color.

FYI, Vivid sold 1 million volumes this month. The combination of SoL and Sport genre in addition to the loli/milf lesbian characters that we all love make this manga a very appealing reading, for Japan and for the average Nanoha fan.

The pacing is correct, the SoL moments and fluff are good, the new characters are interesting, and the fights are great. If you want to bash this manga with OPINIONS do it somewhere else.

Force is horrible though, I think we can agree in that. Though pacing is the lesser of its problems.

I fail to see how either Force OR Vivid is anything to write home about. They both bore me half to death.

Vivids the same shit over and over again. I fail to see what's "correct" about it. It's gotten so bad I honestly only read it for the cameo appearances of Fate.

You're really gonna pretend Vivid's not a fanservice exploitation manga when it's drawn by a loli eromanga artist and they put naked girls on the covers, repeatedly?

(No goodies visible but I'll take it down if it's too much for this site...)

I would not say the Nanoha franchise is dead so much as nothing of note is happening in it. Strikers -- though mildly entertaining -- was not what fans of Nanoha fell in love with. Gone was the cute Nanoha, gone was the unrestrained battling -- and in return we were given politics and limiters. Bleh. And I don't think the creators know quite how to extract themselves out of that mistake. Perhaps a collapse of the TSAB with Team Nanoha as the last defense against an insanely powerful foe to end the series on a high note? Eh, just some thoughts.

If you haven't read the doujinshi "Nanoha BetrayerS" yet, give it a look. It's based on a similar scenario, and there's an English translated version available.

Wow, that pretty up sums up my opinions on anything post A's. Seriously, as a die hard fan of the first two seasons, I can't help but feel that the writers are just beating a dead horse.

I honestly do hope that they stop before we get to a point where we have Nanoha, Fate and Hayate - ages 90 - in a retirement home whining about the good ol' days whilst we follow the exploits of Teena and Subaru's love child's android sister's twin brother's cousin from a parallel future world or something. The funny thing? It'll probably still have "Magical GIRL Lyrical NANOHA' in the title.

Not to mention, that's pretty much why I've been so ecstatic about the movies, because they are brilliant moves - going back to the roots, re-visiting what made the franchise awesome in the first place and making it even better. Awesome stuff. Sad thing is... after the A's movie... there will probably be a StrikerS one...

Honestly, I feel like StrikerS was a good idea done badly. There was only so much mileage they could get out of just Nanoha and only her bestest friends working basically alone on Earth, beating off an endless line of dangerous but well-meaning multiversal threats with tragic pasts. StrikerS expanded the universe while at the same time bumping down the power levels, showing us Midchildans that WEREN'T super expert elite mages.

The main problem with StrikerS was that it was too ambitious. It added way too many characters, half of them weren't compelling in the slightest, and the interesting ones (including the old cast) got all their screentime and badass moments stolen by the crappy ones. They overstretched themselves trying to give backstory and a human element to as many members of that enormous cast as they could, and totally mishandled it. StrikerS essentially collapsed under its own weight.

The problem is that they're doing the same thing with both of the spinoffs. Not only does ViVid add a massive new cast of characters of its very own, but it tries to find a role for as many of the older characters as possible, leaving it with a dangerously overloaded cast and relegating basically the entire A's cast to side characters. Force does the same thing, except even worse because the new villains have to beat up the original cast (along with everyone else) to prove how badass they are.

In the end, none of the spinoff writers have been able to manage the task of balancing their own original set of characters with the both small but beefy A's cast and the gigantic and diverse StrikerS cast. Even the StrikerS writers couldn't handle the ridiculous number of characters they introduced. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of good ideas and good characters out there in the post-A's world. But as long as the writers are trying to write their own basically-original story and world while at the same time including almost every single cast member that has shown up in any Nanoha property to date, the spinoffs can't avoid being unwieldy messes. My advice is to pick out the aspects you like and try your best to ignore the rest.

Thumbs Up. I also think StrikerS proposed very interesting ideas and offered some cool characters but did poorly at the execution of those elements. What i don't agree with is your view en the A's world. There's a lot of interesting stories that could be telled with the beefy but still manageable A's cast living on Earth.

StrikerS is a nice project but it was a waste they skipped Nanoha's teen years entirely, following her during the last year or year and a half before moving to Mid-Childa would be interesting, the transition to Mid-Childa could be the surprise after the grand finale and could've helped to flesh and stablish the A's cast a bit better since A's was mostly fighting and suffering for Hayate and The Wolkenritter.

StrikerS implied that the A's cast had lots of adventures during the timeskip, adventures that we won't see xDU. Vita bonded with Nanoha closely during those years and i also want to know more about the other Wolks, and how Hayate get to end in good terms with Ex-Admiral Graham. Also can be a good chance to develop the Season One's cast who get mercilessly erased from StrikerS, it's very interesting to see how Nanoha's family and school life will change now that her family and close friends know her magical secret xD. The breather episodes would be about Nanoha's school life with Arisa, Suzuka, Fate and Hayate ...or the Wolkenritter working on ordinary jobs xD.

StrikerS is a decent series with some notorious flaws but what i really resented is the looong jump in time. An inter-middel between the two season could be more appropiate in my opinion xD

Have Wolkenritter in coats xD! (i want to hug them xD!)
